The breath of the world flows around all things. It shapes the world, molding patterns into stone and sand, swaying leaf and wave alike.
The Vailënos collection began with one piece, the Ethilnár lamp, which stands for “Flaming Spear” in Tolkien’s High-elven language, Quenya. Its thematic was inspired by wind and flight, the way air flows around an object, and its design incorporates a poem centered on those very leitmotifs, an original piece by a writer who is a close friend of mine. The poem weaves its way through the entire collection, an experiment in artistic synergy, introducing literature into design and creating an emotional bond between the item and its owner. This is further enhanced in Ethilnár by the light switch’s tactile interactivity: there are no buttons to click, no obvious mechanics. The lamp reacts to the user’s touch, igniting to reveal the poem hidden in its floral pattern. Ablaze with man’s oldest dream, the rhymes tell of the joy and freedom of flying, an Elvish spell carved in light.
