Eärendil, the ‘sea lover ‘, a legendary mariner who sailed the skies carrying the morning star according to the Tolkien mythos, guiding and illuminating those who could see him from below in middle-earth.
Our installation aims to light-up a space in a majestic way, spiraling down heavenly from a ceiling. Traveling around Eärendil reveals a different design in every angle, giving off a feel of perpetual movement even though a static object.
Linking it even further to the Vailënos collection is the second verse of the poem found on Ethilnár, etched on the inside of its metallic structure, so that if found within a staircase, and while going up, one discovers the literary aspect of our design as well as it’s different facets.
Immersing us deeper into the interactive experience, and if so desired, motion sensors can be built within the staircase so that the light palms progressively turn on while going upwards until the central and final set of LEDs shine, symbolizing the end of one’s journey reaching the second floor.
Dimensions finishes are custom made and catered to each house, with the original design being 400 cm long, 90 cm wide and 90 cm deep.
